NG Train the Trainer Workshop at LACC

The workshop will be held May 15 – 18 from 9 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Eric Ichon is collecting names and email addresses for participants from each College.

Online Student Orientation

Paul McKenna attended a session at Tech Ed regarding the online student orientation for Riverside Community College (RCC) students which is a prerequisite for their online classes. Successful completion of this course results in a flag in theirs student records. The orientation includes technical requirements, email instructions, etc. RCC has documented a 6% increase in online class completion since this prerequisite has been implemented. We agreed to create a sub-committee to explore the possibility of replicating their work to create a similar orientation for LACCD online students. The class will not initially be a prerequisite for other online classes. Paul McKenna and David Jordan agreed to serve on this subcommittee.

Moodle

Linda informed us the District Human Resources Department plans to use Moodle to support online training. Since Mission, Pierce, Southwest and Trade Tech are also planning to use Moodle for at least some of their online classes there is a possibility that District will be entering into a contract with Remote-Learner.net. Chris DeYoung who does training for the District is working with Joe Perret, the Technical Committee Chair at Southwest, on this project. Chris reported that each campus using Moodle can have its own look and feel. Student enrollment downloads can be done via Remote-Learner.net with batch files, by instructors using Excel spreadsheets or students can self-enroll. It was reported that the District Chief IO, Tony Tortortice, has some interest in having the District IT Department fund this. Chris agreed to join us at our next meeting for an update.

Our next meeting will be on April 24th at 10 a.m. at LACC. Please note the change from 1:30 p.m. as requested by several members. Agenda topics include:
